Penny Carnival is a blog about striving to live more
simply and creatively in this busy world.

My name is Megan (pronounced Meegan) Cooley. I'm a primary teacher, writer, and former newspaper journalist. On this site you will read about "J" (my superhero husband) and our daughters "Bo" (a 13-year-old thespian who keeps us in stitches) and "Magpie" (a 10-year-old lover of animals, music, and baking single-serving cakes in the microwave).

our home

After living in a 700-square-foot apartment in Cambridge, Mass., for the past three years, our family recently bought a 1905 farmhouse on 2.5 acres in Washington state. Follow along as we remodel this storybook home, convert a BMX bike track into a garden, and learn how to prune fruit trees. Lots of fruit trees.

the old blog

I began writing the Penny Carnival blog in 2008 as a creative outlet when my daughters were babies. The old site is best known for the original book sling tutorial. Although we no longer make Cheerio collages, the blog's basic premise still rings true: strive to live more simply and creatively in this busy world.
