I talked tonight to Teri Edwards and Serena Thompson, a.k.a. The Farm Chicks, for an article I'm working on for the S-R.
They started their Farm Chicks antique sale here in Spokane six years ago and it has absolutely exploded over the years. Their first show was in a friend's barn. When they opened the gate at the bottom of the driveway to let people enter, women literally ran at top speed tearing quilts off the fences with crazed looks on their faces as they entered the barn. (This reminds me of my friend Beth and I talking about that panicked feeling you get when you're hungry and you're with a group of people who order pizza and you're not sure if there's enough for you. Does anyone else get that way? Or do I seriously need help?)
Needless to say, Teri and Serena had struck a chord.
The Farm Chicks style is very charming and it brings my design schizophrenia to the surface. I'm definitely more modern than anything, but it's hard not to love some of the rusty old furnishings and colorful vintage toys their vendors offer. I guess that's why I'd describe the look we're going for in our house as "folk modern."
The next Farm Chicks sale is June 7 & 8. There will be 115 vendors--many of whom write craft blogs. Check out their vendors page when you get a chance.
I took these photos at the May 2006 show.
Everything looks great! It's not really my decorating-style either, but I would be so tempted to buy a whole bunch of stuff anyway ;-)
