You can only spend so much time at the county pool. We took a break from the sun today, and did some crafting this afternoon.
Following instructions from Kids Craft Weekly's alphabet issue, we made pantry letter art. We're low on beans, but we had Cheerios and whole peppers. Coincidentally, the peppers fit pretty perfectly inside the Cheerios.
For Bo's "B," I squirted the glue on in segments, so it wouldn't dry too quickly. She really was enjoying herself, despite the half-baked masterpiece below. (She caught sight of the tire swing outside and set her project aside for a few minutes.)
No, Magpie isn't a crafting prodigy at 8 months old. I Cheerio'd up her initials while she took one of her once-in-a-blue-moon marathon naps. It's like she stores up a month's worth of a normal baby's nap times and bangs it all out at once.
This brings up a question. How much crafting do you do alongside your child? Bo never seems to shy away from her own art when she sees what grownup hands can do. But I still worry that she'll become frustrated at her speed, so I either usually go very slowly on what I'm doing or not take part at all (just be near her for support and instruction when she asks for it). I also don't want to constantly hover over her, so that she's always seeking an adult's reaction to her work. It's so hard to know what's right. Geesh. And we're just talking about arts and crafts here.
That's so cool. We wil have to give it a try. What will you do with it now it's done?

Thanks, Danielle.
I don't know. Bo's is hanging from the art rack in her room (you can see a picture of where we hang her art projects here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25361557@N05/2557461781/).
I was thinking of framing them. We always use plain white frames in our house. Hmmm ... Any ideas?

I've been enjoying reading your website. You are so creative!!
I have an idea that I used to do at day camp that reminded me of your Cherrio initials. We found a nice sized piece of tree bark. Then use Alphabet Pasta, glue on the children's names.
The kids are growing so fast and really cute!

Hi, Char! It's great to see a post from you. I'm so glad you've been reading along. I'll be sure to e-mail you some photos of the girls without their heads chopped off or their backs to the camera, though, so you can really see how quickly they're growing up.
What a fun idea with the tree bark. I'm always trying to come up with ways to use stuff from outside. Love it.
