I'm working on a story right now for the paper about not-so-fantastic plastic. The more research I do, the more I'm freaking out. It's like I want to rewind time and start having kids now--now that I know a bit more about what chemicals like BPA do to Fievel the mouse. But, of course, two years from now we'll be worried about something entirely different.
The natural conclusion, I guess, is to go natural. Glass bottles. Wooden teethers. Ohdeedoh, the parenting blog run by the Apartment Therapy folks, posted a link today to an online store that sells safe toys and feeding products and I'm loving their rubber giraffe teething toy below.
Some other sites I'm finding are this one, this one, and this one.
Speaking of Ohdeedoh, I'm one of three finalists "competing" right now to be one of their regular bloggers. They're having us try out by submitting sample posts, which they've been putting up on the blog over the last couple of weeks. At some point, they're going to feature my kids' bedrooms and a how-to project I wrote up. I'm really hoping to get the job, but the other finalists are quite good so I'm not holding my breath.
Being a newspaper reporter, I'm used to other people reading my writing, but 99.9 percent of the time I'm writing about other people's lives, not my own. So, yes, I'm a little weirded out about thousands of people being able to see where my children sleep, but it will interesting to read the feedback.
