What is with the titles of my posts lately? Somebody cut me off.
Seriously, though, the clown on the cover of this book I found at the used bookstore today is freaking me out. I mean, they did want to sell copies, right? Who were they hoping would buy the book, Chucky's parents?
For $3, I can get over the hideous cover. Especially since this little 96-page treasure from 1973 is chock full of inspiring projects, not the least of which are five--count 'em, five--plans for modern doll houses. Here are my favorites (sorry for photos. Scanner is on the fritz):
Other groovy ideas include how to make a geodesic dome for the backyard out of cardboard (which reminded me of this project I stumbled upon the other day), how to make a giant outdoor rocking giraffe, oh, and plans for making tiny modern furniture for those modern dollhouses. Time to fire up the power tools. Christmas is a comin'.
There are some pretty bad ideas, too (uh, I mentioned the demented clown, right?), like this "Barrel for Cavorting":
Either someone was channeling Pete's Dragon (who remembers the scene?) or an orthodontist financially backed the publication of this book.
Here's the important info for your eBay/Amazon hunting pleasure:
Title: Things to Make For Children
Publisher: the Sunset magazine folks
Copyright: 1973
ISBN: 0376047038
I just introduced my 3-year-old boy to Pete's Dragon last week, so I love the barrel! Pete's Dragon, what a classic.

Isn't it hilarious? We bought it a couple months ago right before our long cross-country flight. I can't believe it came out in 1977. I was 3 years old. My sister and I loved it, especially the Candle on the Water scene.

Thanks for stopping by, Little A. I love your children's dresses!
I bet you could find this book on Amazon. I'd try right now if I weren't half asleep. The plans in the book aren't very detailed, but they give a good starting point.
